Adwoa Safo loses to Mike Oquaye Jnr,

Adwoa Safo, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, suffered a defeat in the parliamentary primary held by the New Patriotic Party on January 27. Mike Oquaye Jnr, the CEO of the Free Zones Authority, emerged victorious with over 1194 votes, while Adwoa Safo received 328 votes. Sheela Oppong Sakyi, another candidate, secured third place with just around 100 votes.

 

The Dome-Kwabenya constituency witnessed a competitive three-way contest involving Adwoa Safo, Dr. Mike Oquaye, and Sheela Oppong Sakyi. The primary held significant importance for NPP members in the constituency.

 

As the votes were counted, it became clear that a majority of party members opted for a new representative. Dr. Mike Oquaye claimed victory, leaving Adwoa Safo and Sheela Oppong Sakyi trailing. Dr. Oquaye, renowned for his contributions and service, expressed gratitude for the support received from party members. In a brief statement, he acknowledged the challenges faced during the campaign and pledged to diligently address the concerns of the people in Dome-Kwabenya.

The defeat for Adwoa Safo, who has held the MP position for Dome-Kwabenya since 2013, signifies a noteworthy shift in the political dynamics of the constituency.
