President Nana Akufo-Addo has announced that a majority of the Agenda 111 hospital projects are slated for commissioning in 2024. In his address at the 2017 Physicians and Surgeons Awards, President Akufo-Addo expressed his aspiration to position Ghana as the hub for superior healthcare in West Africa by 2030.

Currently, construction is underway for 86 district hospitals, two regional psychiatric hospitals, and the western regional hospital, all at varying stages of completion. The overall completion rate for the 89 projects averages 52%, with some sites reaching 70 to 80% completion.

President Akufo-Addo’s vision extends beyond the establishment of new healthcare facilities. He aims to make Ghana the center of medical excellence in West Africa by 2030, capitalizing on the country’s favorable status as the most peaceful nation in the West Africa sub-region, a bastion of democracy, and a land of opportunities.

The Agenda 111 initiative encompasses the development of 101 standard 100-bed district hospitals, six new regional hospitals for the newly formed regions, the rehabilitation of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in the Western Region, construction of a new regional hospital for the Western Region, and two psychiatric hospitals for the Middle and North zones. The entire undertaking is budgeted at $1.765 billion.

President Akufo-Addo reiterated his government’s unwavering commitment to enhancing access to essential and high-quality health services. This commitment involves providing the necessary health infrastructure, equipment, and logistics, alongside the deployment of appropriate technology, aligning with the nation’s pursuit of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
