The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is making thorough preparations for its upcoming polls scheduled for Saturday, November 4, 2023. These polls aim to elect a flagbearer for the 2024 general elections and are a crucial part of the party’s efforts to break the eight-year election cycle pattern.

With over 200,000 party delegates set to participate in this significant election, the NPP is determined to find a suitable candidate who can lead the party to victory.

Following the August Super Delegates Conference, where the list of flagbearer hopefuls was reduced from 10 to four, the remaining aspirants in the race are Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, and former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh.

While Dr. Bawumia is widely regarded as the frontrunner in the race, some analysts anticipate fierce competition from Kennedy Agyapong.

In an effort to ensure commitment to the party’s unity, all contestants have signed an undertaking not to resign from the party should they lose in this election.

The flagbearer selection process, critical for the 2024 general elections, will take place in every constituency across all 16 regions of the country. On the ballot paper, Kennedy Agyapong’s name will appear at the top, followed by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the second position. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimo, will be listed in the third and fourth positions, respectively.
