Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister Responsible for Energy, has been recognized as the Best Performing Minister at the Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Honours Awards for the year 2023.
In acknowledgment of his outstanding accomplishments as the Energy Minister since assuming office in March 2021, Dr. Prempeh was presented with the prestigious Order of Merit award during a vibrant ceremony on Friday, December 22, 2023.
The decision to honor Dr. Opoku Prempeh ahead of his peers was grounded in a comprehensive study that unveiled his remarkable commitment and fervor for human welfare, as proclaimed by the event organizers.
The transformative leadership displayed by the Minister in the energy sector was commended by the Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Honours Awards, ensuring a consistent supply of power and fuel to sustain the nation, especially during a period marked by global supply chain disruptions causing shortages in various parts of the world.
During his acceptance speech, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh conveyed his deepest gratitude to the Almighty for the strength and resilience that empowered him to fulfill his duties as the Minister of Energy.
Furthermore, Dr. Prempeh expressed appreciation to President H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for providing him the opportunity to serve Ghana.
“Last night marked another humbling moment for me, being recognized at the 5th Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Honours as the ‘Minister of the Year 2023.’ This is once again evidence that our modest contributions to nation-building are closely observed.
For me, it serves as both a challenge and an encouragement to continue giving my best as a public official, to the best of my ability, for the people of Ghana.
While I am eternally grateful to His Excellency the President for the chance to serve, I extend heartfelt tribute to the dynamic team I work with; they are the pillars supporting our success.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh also conveyed his thanks to the organizers for recognizing his meaningful contributions to public development.
