During his three-day visit to the Republic of Ireland, US President Joe Biden paid tribute to his Irish ancestry, as he was welcomed by thousands of people in the home county of his ancestors. Speaking in a pub in County Louth, where his great-great-grandfather had left for America, he expressed that visiting the area felt like coming home.

Before arriving in Ireland, Biden marked the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday peace agreement with a brief visit to Northern Ireland. His tour included visits to the Cooley Peninsula and the village of Carlingford in County Louth, where crowds welcomed him along the quayside.

Biden visited a shop in Dundalk, where he enjoyed some sweet treats and spoke about his Irish background. He also addressed an audience at the town’s Windsor Bar, where he praised the Irish people for their hope and urged politicians in Belfast to restore the power-sharing government at Stormont. In the coming days, Biden will speak at the Oireachtas (Irish parliament) and meet with more relatives in Ballina.
