Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a temporary disruption in water supply to the Tema Metropolis and parts of Accra following damage to the raw water transmission pipeline serving the Kpong Treatment Plant.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 28, 2025, and made available to Metro TV, management explained that the incident has forced an emergency shutdown of the plant to allow for urgent repair works.
“The raw water transmission pipeline serving the Kpong Treatment Plant has suffered damage, necessitating a temporary shutdown for repairs,” the statement confirmed.
The interruption will affect customers across the entire Tema Metropolis and several communities in Accra, including Ashaiman, Gbetsele, Akatamanso, Klagon, Lashibi, Baatsonaa, Spintex, parts of East Legon, and neighboring areas.
Repair works have already commenced and are expected to take approximately three (3) days. GWL assured customers that supply will be restored immediately upon completion.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to store enough water while supply remains available. Essential service providers, such as hospitals and schools, are encouraged to contact GWL for support through toll-free lines and official social media platforms.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate the patience and understanding of our cherished customers,” the statement concluded.
