The Central University (CU) Library Directorate has refurbished the Kaneshie Senior High Technical School (KATECO) library in the Greater Accra Region. The university’s library directorate performed this gesture of social service as part of its 25th anniversary and the Library Week Celebration. The CU Library aims to impact lives in society, which is why it chose KATECO as the beneficiary of this project. The school is near where the Central University library began 25 years ago. The Librarian in charge at Central University Library Directorate, Francisca Yaba Asante, stressed the importance of a school library, stating that it is a storehouse of knowledge and an essential aspect of every academic institution.

Mrs. Asante commended the management of Central University for supporting the Library Directorate in refurbishing the KATECO Library. She urged staff and students to take good care of it and maximize its resources. The Headmaster of KATECO, Paul Agyiri Mensah, expressed his gratitude to CU for the intervention.

The CU library has grown from a single library to nine libraries on three campuses. It has taught Information Literacy Skills as a university-wide course for level 100 students for nearly five years. This course prepares students for a lifelong skill that enables them to do effective and efficient learning and research in their academic work at Central University and beyond.

The CU Library created a motivational corner in 2020 to serve as a Counselling Centre and a place for facility users to distress, which has yielded positive outcomes.

The chairman of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries, Dr. Mac-Anthony Cobblah, urged Central University to make its library the knowledge bank to raise transformational leaders.
