The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has officially suspended its strike action, effective immediately, following a meeting with the Office of the Vice President and assurances from the government to address their concerns.
In a statement, CETAG National President Prince Cheng Himah announced, “Council members have unanimously voted to call off the ongoing strike action after our meeting with the Office of the Vice President and receiving assurances for the resolution of the impasse.”
CETAG had been on strike for over eight weeks, protesting unresolved issues such as frozen salaries, delayed migration processes, and compensation for year-round work.
The government has committed to the following:
- Pay frozen July and August salaries by the end of August.
- Complete the offline migration process by the end of August.
- Process migration data for individual staff verification in September.
- Reflect the migration in October salaries.
- Agree on a payment plan for arrears.
- Adopt the affiliate universities’ Scheme of Service for nomenclature.
- Pay compensation for all-year-round work done in 2022 by the end of August.
- Migrate holders of researched Master’s degrees as Assistant Lecturers.
CETAG has warned that the strike will resume by the end of October if the government fails to meet these commitments.
Prince Himah expressed gratitude to the Vice President’s Senior Advisor, Mr. Fred Oware, and the ministers involved in resolving the dispute, saying, “We appreciate the strong commitments to fulfill all outstanding concerns of members with a clear roadmap.”
