He confessed to being part of the mismanagement of the economy during his tenure as the Trade Minister until his resignation in September 2023 when he severed ties with the New Patriotic Party.

The former Minister of Trade and Industry emphasized the importance of his role as a change agent, despite acknowledging his involvement in the economic challenges.

As the leader and founder of the Movement for Change, Kyerematen clarified that governments are not solely run by ministers but by an executive authority at the highest level, making it challenging for Bawumia to entirely absolve himself of blame.

In an interview  on Citi TV, Mr Kyerematen stated, “There’s no doubt about that, how is it even possible to deny that you have been a minister and say that you are not part of a system? But that is not the case, you are talking about being a minister, governments are not run by ministers. It’s about the executive authority at the highest level. You provide the direction as a minister.”

He countered the notion that being a vice president limits one’s influence, citing examples of late former President J.E Mills giving substantial responsibilities to then vice president Mahama. Similarly, President Akufo-Addo has provided Vice President Dr. Bawumia with ample opportunities to lead governance processes.

Kofi Bentil, Vice President of IMANI Africa, called on Ghanaians to give the NPP presidential candidate a fair hearing before his national address, emphasizing that as a Vice President, Dr. Bawumia should be given a chance as he was “only number 2.”
