President Mahama Appoints COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu as New IGP

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), with immediate effect.

His appointment comes as part of ongoing security sector reforms, leading to the removal of Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare from the position.

COP Yohunu is set to be officially sworn in on Friday, March 14.

Dr. Akuffo-Dampare, who served as IGP since 2021, introduced significant policing reforms, including community engagement initiatives and measures to enhance internal discipline within the force.

While no official reason has been provided for his removal, sources indicate that it is part of a broader effort to restructure the Ghana Police Service.
