EC announce an election rerun at a designated polling station in the Dome Kwabenya constituency

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced an election rerun at a designated polling station in the Dome Kwabenya constituency following the completion of the collation of results from 367 polling stations, with three results still pending.

Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the EC’s Director of Training, explained the situation: “The returning officers reported that the results from 367 polling stations had been collated, with three still outstanding. These three results were later submitted. However, the Commission rejected one of them because it was based on an incorrect statement of poll, using training sheets instead of the official form. As a result, we rejected that one and decided to proceed with the remaining two results to see what unfolds.”

Dr. Quaicoe further clarified that after tallying the two valid results, the two leading candidates were separated by just 165 votes. The rejected result, which contained 669 votes, could potentially shift the outcome if all those votes were awarded to the second candidate. This led to the decision for a rerun at the polling station.

The polling station in question is the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2. Dr. Quaicoe stated, “We are submitting our report to the Commission, which will decide when the rerun will take place. However, we are confident it will be conducted before the new MPs are inaugurated.”

The rerun is expected to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process, resolving any uncertainties around the disputed results in the Dome Kwabenya constituency.
