The Electoral Commission (EC) has reassured the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that all identified discrepancies in the provisional voter register are being addressed, describing the current register as “almost near perfect.” The EC emphasized its commitment to delivering a credible and robust voter register for the 2024 general elections.

Responding to concerns raised by the NDC regarding discrepancies, the EC acknowledged the party’s grievances but noted that a forensic audit is unnecessary at this stage, as the ongoing exhibition process serves as an audit in itself.

“The exhibition allows for auditing the register, identifying discrepancies, and following legal procedures to rectify them,” the EC explained.

The Commission outlined its four-step approach to resolving discrepancies, involving district electoral officers, exhibition officers, IT staff, and the voters themselves. The EC also requested that the NDC submit a detailed report of the discrepancies they have identified, noting that it had not yet received this information.

“We urge the NDC to trust the process and allow us to correct the discrepancies in the provisional voter register,” the EC said, adding that all identified issues are being resolved.

The EC further encouraged the NDC to engage in constructive dialogue by submitting the necessary data to facilitate investigations and ensure a transparent resolution process.

“Protests and demonstrations will not ensure a credible register; rather, they will only breed unnecessary tension and suspicion,” the Commission stated, expressing confidence that former President John Mahama would guide his party toward a more productive discussion on the matter.

The EC reiterated its commitment to transparency and assured the NDC that all concerns would be addressed through proper dialogue and resolution mechanisms.
