The Electoral Commission (EC) has designated April 30, 2024, as the date for the by-election in Ejisu, following the passing of John Kumah on March 7, 2024. The 45-year-old Member of Parliament (MP) succumbed to a brief illness, leaving behind a wife and six children.

All nine individuals aspiring to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary primary in the constituency received clearance from the vetting committee on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Nominations for the NPP’s parliamentary candidacy opened on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, and all nine candidates had submitted their nominations by the time the process concluded on Thursday, April 4. The NPP is slated to select its parliamentary candidate for the constituency on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

As of now, no other political party has indicated interest in the by-election. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has mentioned that it is still deliberating on whether to partake in the by-election.
