Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has emphasized the need for robust measures to be implemented to ensure peaceful elections in 2024. During a courtesy call by the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, at the Manhyia Palace as part of his visit to the Ashanti region, the Asantehene urged the police chief to take proactive steps to prevent disturbances that may arise during the upcoming general elections.

Highlighting that Ghana has come of age, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stressed the importance of instituting proper measures to maintain peace during elections. He acknowledged that, as a nation, Ghana has a history of successful elections and encouraged the police to uphold their duty in protecting the country and ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

“This year is an election year. This is not the first time we are voting; we’ve always been voting. I urge you all to put in measures to ensure peace in the upcoming election. You must protect the country; it is your duty hence, put in measures for the country to live to that,” remarked the Asantehene.

In addition to election security, the Asantehene also urged the police to implement stringent measures to combat illegal mining, a challenge that has been causing environmental damage to water bodies and forest reserves.

“Recently, there have been illegal mining cases which have become a challenge. I’ll plead with you all to help put a stop to that. It is affecting our lands and water bodies,” he stated.

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, assured the Asantehene of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the country. He expressed gratitude for the enormous support of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in nation-building and acknowledged the importance of collaboration in ensuring a secure and prosperous Ghana.
