President Akufo-Addo has assigned additional responsibilities to certain ministers to address vacancies in ministries lacking permanent leaders. This decision was part of his first significant reshuffle on Wednesday, February 14, involving the removal and reassignment of ministers.

A notable appointment includes John Peter Amewu, the Minister of Railways, temporarily taking charge of the Sanitation and Water Resources Ministry until Lydia Seyram Alhassan completes her vetting process. Similarly, Interior Minister Henry Quartey will oversee the Greater Accra Region until Nii Kwartei Titus Glover assumes the role of Greater Accra Regional Minister.

Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, will continue leading the Information Ministry until Parliament examines and approves the appointment of his former deputy, Fatimatu Abubakar. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, besides her role in the Communications Ministry, has been tasked with leading the Health Ministry until Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye is officially sworn in as the minister.

Meanwhile, Osei Bonsu Amoah will serve as the minister in charge of the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry until Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah is approved as a permanent minister. The temporary administration of the Oti region has been entrusted to Archibald Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister.

Fisheries Minister Hawa Koomson will lead the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection until Darkoa Newman takes over, while Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor will temporarily oversee the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation until Ophelia Quansah Hayford assumes the position.

These ministers will fulfill their additional duties until substantive ministers are sworn in, ensuring orderly and effective governance in their respective areas. This decision aligns with the government’s objective to enhance administrative performance and efficiency across ministries.
