A devastating fire broke out at parts of the Kantamanto market in Accra on New Year’s Day, prompting a swift and large-scale response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

To contain the fire, 13 fire appliances were deployed from various fire stations, including Abelenkpe, Kasapreko, Circle, Trade Fair, Dansoman, Legon, Tema Regional Headquarters, and Madina.

In updates shared on its official Facebook page, the GNFS reassured the public that it was working diligently to control the situation. “Despite the fierce blaze, the GNFS assures the public that we are tirelessly working to bring the situation under control,” the fire service stated.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time, but the GNFS emphasized its commitment to extinguishing the blaze and bringing the situation to a swift conclusion. The significant deployment of fire tenders is part of the service’s efforts to effectively manage the fire and prevent further destruction.
