Ghanaians should support locally produced chicken -John Dumelo

John Dumelo, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon and a farmer, has made a heartfelt appeal to Ghanaians to support locally produced chicken, emphasizing its potential to transform the nation’s economy.

In a social media post, Mr. Dumelo highlighted that if one million Ghanaians consume locally produced chicken each month, it would significantly boost demand and stimulate the growth of small-scale poultry farms.

“That’s an average of 1,000 small-scale farms producing 1,000 birds per month,” he explained.

He further noted that this increased demand for chicken would have a ripple effect, encouraging maize farmers to expand production to supply poultry farms, thereby strengthening the entire agricultural value chain.

Mr. Dumelo also argued that greater patronage of made-in-Ghana chicken could reduce the country’s dependence on imported frozen chicken.

“We can make this work. It’s achievable,” he assured.

Concluding his message, he challenged citizens to take action, asking, “Have you purchased your made-in-Ghana chicken today?”
