The government has allocated GH5 million through the Ministry of Roads and Highways to address road repairs in regions affected by the Akosombo Dam leakage. This funding will also cover the necessary repairs for any damages caused by the spillover at the Lower Volta Bridge, commonly known as the Sogakope Bridge.

Mr. Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the Minister of Roads and Highways, conveyed this information during his official visit to the region. His visit aimed to assess the condition of the Sogakope Bridge and gather firsthand information on the impact of the spillage on local road networks.

In response to the situation, he directed the Roads Fund Coordinator to allocate GH5 million for the repair work on the bridge and other affected roads. He explained, “The Road Fund is primarily designated for road maintenance, and although there are limited funds available, the urgency of the ongoing emergency has led to a directive from His Excellency the President to take all necessary measures to mitigate the effects of this disaster. In line with this authorization, I have instructed the Road Fund Coordinator to earmark this amount and inform the Board to allocate it for this purpose.”

He further stated, “This initial GH¢5 million will give us a solid foundation to address the roads, particularly focusing on the Sogakope Bridge.”

Accompanying the Minister were Alhaji Dr. Abass, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Mr. James Amoo-Gottfried, the Director of Urban Roads, and Thomas Mbomba, the Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, alongside officials and engineers from the Ghana Highway Authority.
