The long-awaited contraceptive for women was launched by DKT Ghana in Accra. Femject, a new three-month injectable contraceptive, will provide affordable and reliable family planning options available to women across the country.
In attendance were representatives from the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the Pharmaceutical Council, PATH Ghana, Lydia Partner Clinics, Population Council, Total Family Health Organization (TFHO), the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), and community leaders.
Addressing participants at the event, Alex Brown, Country Director of DKT AWA, emphasized the increasing need for sustainable family planning solutions, especially as donor support for reproductive health continues to decline.
He explained that the launch of Femject comes at a critical moment, offering women and healthcare providers an additional, dependable contraceptive option.
The new contraceptive (Femject) broadens the range of choices available to women and health professionals,” Mr. Brown said. “As funding landscapes change, it’s important that access to safe and effective family planning methods remains protected.”
Dr. Doris Amarteifio, who delivered a goodwill message, said DKT Ghana’s long-standing contribution to the country’s health system was also acknowledged. The message she delivered was on behalf of Dr. Kennedy T. C. Brightson, Head of the GHS Family Health Division, praising DKT for its consistent efforts in strengthening family planning in the country and improving access to contraceptives to all women.
Adding her voice, Dr. Claudette Diogo of the GHS Pharmacy Division congratulated DKT Ghana on the successful launch and reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to continued collaboration.
With the introduction of Femject, women in Ghana now have more options to make informed decisions about their reproductive health, further strengthening the country’s family planning landscape with reliable and sustainable contraceptive options.
