Following a meeting with Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo, Idris Elba announced plans to build a film studio in the country. Until a permanent name is assigned, the studio will be temporarily known as West African Studios.

It will be Elba’s second visit to Ghana in his career, and he plans to film a movie there in December.

The Actor has been working on the plan for the past three or four years. They intend to put the facility at the centre of African filmmaking. There’s a lot for African filmmaking, but the facilities are lacking,” he said.

The actor has been criticized for sidelining his Sierra Leonean heritage. He addressed his critics on Twitter, telling his Sierra Leonean fans that he hasn’t forgotten about them.

His most notable credits include Luther, Mandela: The Long Walk to Freedom, and The Wire, among others.

In his remarks, he expressed the hope that the project would attract more filmmakers to Ghana and West Africa.
