The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has initiated a sweeping reshuffle of Police Commanders stationed in areas hardest hit by illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
This move is part of a renewed national security strategy aimed at strengthening the fight against environmental degradation caused by unauthorized mining operations.
The reshuffle affects Divisional and District Commanders in key galamsey-prone regions — specifically the Eastern South, Western, and Western North Police Regions.
It marks the beginning of what officials describe as a broader nationwide redeployment, intended to bring new energy and accountability into the Police Service’s anti-galamsey efforts.
Sources within the Ghana Police Service confirm that this realignment is more than a routine personnel movement; it reflects a shift in operational focus and intensity.
“The Police Administration is committed to ensuring that officers leading this fight are proactive, mission-focused, and fully aligned with the urgency of the situation,” a senior officer noted.
