
Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has emphasized the critical role of data-driven decision-making in effective governance and national development.
Speaking at a reception hosted by the British High Commission, she stated that “data-driven insights are crucial for effective governance and national development,” underscoring the importance of using accurate data to inform policies and strategies.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reflected on her tenure at the Ministry of Education, where data analysis on teacher absenteeism contributed to a significant reduction in absenteeism rates from 27% to 7%. She highlighted this as a key example of how data can drive impactful change in policy implementation.
She further stressed that data plays an essential role in evaluation, planning, monitoring, and resource allocation, ensuring that government initiatives are efficient and effective. Additionally, she underscored the importance of transparency in data use, stating that openness is fundamental to building public trust and accountability.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to leveraging data-driven policies for national development, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang called for a continued emphasis on data as a foundation for decision-making in governance.
