According to his agent Bradley Singer, Jerry Springer, the former mayor of Cincinnati and popular TV host known for his sensational talk show featuring heated arguments, chair-throwing, and physical altercations between feuding couples and individuals who caused chaos in relationships, has passed away at 79.

In a statement released by his family, Springer died after a brief illness at his suburban Chicago home, adding that he was a respected figure in entertainment and politics. Before transitioning to television, Springer had a successful political career, serving on Cincinnati’s City Council and eventually becoming the city’s mayor. He also failed to win the Democratic nomination for Ohio governor in 1982.

While funeral and memorial arrangements are yet to be completed, Springer’s family has requested that those who wish to honor his memory donate to a “worthy advocacy organization” or show kindness towards someone in need, as he often encouraged his viewers to do so on his show.
