John Mahama calls for peaceful 2024 election

Addressing the 8th Guan Congress held in Winneba, Central Region, Former President John Dramani Mahama urged Ghanaians to actively contribute to a peaceful 2024 election. He emphasized the significance of a tranquil electoral process for the nation’s continuous developmental progress, urging unity among citizens in the collective effort to build the country.

Mahama not only called for peaceful conduct before, during, and after the 2024 general elections but also stressed the importance of national unity. He urged Ghanaians to recognize their shared destiny, emphasizing the common bond that binds the entire population.

Expressing concern about the perceived erosion of Guan culture, Mahama highlighted the need to preserve traditions despite the influences of modernization and religion. The 8th Guan Congress marked the revival of a gathering that had taken a hiatus after the 2012 Congress, with traditional leaders and their communities converging to showcase their culture.

As the first settlers of Ghana, President of the Congress, Enyineh Badu Nkansah III, advocated for identifying other Guan states that might be assimilating into different ethnic groups. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace and unity among all Guans.

Representing President Akufo-Addo, Local Government Minister Dan Botwe encouraged Guans to work towards preserving Guan unity. He underscored the necessity of establishing a secretariat to oversee the Guan Congress’s affairs, ensuring effective advocacy for developmental agendas within Guan communities.
