Mawuli Semevo passes on at 63

Ghanaian actor Mawuli Semevo has passed away at the age of 63 after suffering severe burns in a fire accident.

Mr. Semevo succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Ridge Hospital in Accra, where he had been receiving treatment.

The tragic incident occurred on February 8, 2025, when his home caught fire while he was asleep. Judith Addison, a representative of Beyond Burns International, a non-profit organization, confirmed the severity of his condition.

According to Ms. Addison, the actor sustained burns covering approximately 44% of his body, along with respiratory injuries that severely impacted his breathing.

“He suffered burns on about 44% of his body, with significant respiratory damage. The fire affected him from head to toe, and he lost all his hair,” she stated.

Mawuli Semevo was widely recognized for his outstanding performances in both stage and film. His impressive body of work includes roles in Harvest at 17, A Stab in the Dark, Escape of Love, Like Cotton Twines, and The Good Old Days.

His passing marks a great loss to Ghana’s entertainment industry, where his talent and contributions will always be remembered.
