Nana Appiah Mensah, the CEO of the now-defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, has expressed his intention to reclaim the GH₵2.5 million that he had delivered to the Ghana Police for customer distribution. He clarified that the money was not meant to be deposited at the Bank of Ghana.

According to NAM 1, the agreement with the police was for them to provide security, not to deposit the money with the central bank. He stated, “The intent was not to give money to the police to distribute. We went to the police because we wanted security. The agreement with the police was to have them provide a desk where we could distribute the money.”

He added, “I am surprised the money has been deposited at the Bank of Ghana. I will go back to the police and ask them to give the money back to me because that was not the arrangement we had.”

Nana Appiah Mensah had handed over GH₵2.5 million to the police on October 20, 2023, following a suggestion from the Office of the Attorney-General.

The Police administration, in a statement on October 24, 2023, explained that the money had been placed in the Police Exhibit account at the Bank of Ghana. They noted that the funds are being investigated in connection with petitions against Nana Appiah Mensah, filed by certain clients of MenzGold Ghana Company Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Limited, and that these cases are currently pending before the Accra High Court. The statement also mentioned that the court would determine the disbursement of the money.

Whether the police will comply with Nana Appiah Mensah’s request and return the money remains uncertain and subject to future developments.
