Nana AKufo-Addo appoints Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed a Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency. Dr. Yaw Twerefour, a medical practitioner and Public Health Specialist with over ten years of experience, has been selected for the role under Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 100 (1) of the Health Institutions and Facilities Act, 2011(Act 829). 

Dr. Twerefour’s responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the licensing, control, and regulation of facilities related to storing.
  • Transporting.
  • Disposing of human remains.

Before his appointment, he worked as the Medical Superintendent of Anyaa Polyclinic and has held various roles at Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Western Region. 

Dr. Twerefour is a member of the Ghana Medical Association and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra and has co-authored two medical publications in respected journals. He holds a Master in Public Health (MPH) and certificates in Occupational Health Safety and Global Health Project Management and Leadership Management. Dr. Twerefour is a proud alumnus of Mfantsipim School.

The appointment is awaiting the approval of the Agency’s Governing Board in consultation with the Public Service Commission.
