Asanteman came together in a magnificent display of unity, culture, and loyalty to celebrate the 76th birthday of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Jubilee Hall within the historic Manhyia Palace.
The milestone, officially marked on May 6, 2026, highlighted the enduring legacy of the Asantehene and celebrated his 27 years of transformative leadership on the revered Golden Stool. The occasion attracted traditional authorities, clergy, dignitaries, members of the royal family, and well-wishers from across Ghana and beyond.
The main celebration took place on Sunday, May 10, 2026, with a grand royal luncheon hosted at the multi-purpose Jubilee Hall. The elegant gathering reflected the prestige and cultural richness of the Asante Kingdom, as guests assembled to honor the monarch’s remarkable service to Asanteman and Ghana as a whole.
One of the most memorable moments of the celebration was the ceremonial cutting of a specially designed birthday cake adorned with traditional Asante symbols and colors. His Majesty was joined by Lady Julia Osei Tutu, Nananom Amanhene, Amanhemaa, and members of the royal household during the symbolic ceremony, which drew admiration from attendees.
Earlier in the day, a thanksgiving service was held at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral in Kumasi. The spiritual gathering brought together religious leaders, statesmen, traditional authorities, and supporters to offer prayers and gratitude for the life, wisdom, and leadership of the Asantehene.
Traditional leaders, including Kumasi Abrempong and members of the Adehyeɛ royal lineage, also paid homage to the King by presenting gifts, citations, and messages of loyalty in recognition of his continued dedication to preserving the traditions and dignity of the Asante Kingdom.
The celebration further featured a ceremonial parade by the Ghana Police Service at the Manhyia Palace grounds. The parade served as a salute to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s contribution to national peace, stability, and social development throughout his reign.
Although the public festivities were held on May 10, the King’s actual birthday on May 6 was observed privately in accordance with sacred Asante customs. The day was reserved for solemn spiritual purification rites intended to renew the soul of the monarch and reinforce the spiritual and cosmic authority of the Golden Stool.
For many across Ghana, the 76th birthday celebration was not only a tribute to a revered traditional ruler, but also a reflection of the enduring strength, unity, and cultural pride of Asanteman under the leadership of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
