Commemorative Artwork Crafted from 27 Ounces of Gold Fetches GH¢1.5M at Auction

Otumfuo

A unique gold-encrusted artwork has been auctioned for GH¢1.5 million as part of celebrations marking the 27th anniversary of the reign of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The special piece was one of the highlights of the “World Meets in Ghana Executive Gala,” held at the Jubilee Hall.

The artwork, titled “27 Ounces for 27 Years,” was created to symbolize each year of the Asantehene’s reign. It served as the centerpiece of the gala event and drew strong interest from guests and supporters attending the celebration.

The design features 27 ounces of gold carefully incorporated into the piece, representing the 27 years of leadership by the revered monarch. It also includes a carved world map placed against a traditional Kente fabric background, blending cultural heritage with modern artistic expression.

One of the most striking features of the artwork is its function as a world clock. It displays the current times in Accra, Dubai, London, and New York City, symbolizing the Asantehene’s international influence and the global recognition of his leadership.

The gala was also organized as a fundraiser for the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, which supports education and healthcare initiatives across Ghana. Over the years, the foundation has played an important role in improving lives through scholarships, medical support, and community development projects.

Another major attraction of the evening was the unveiling of what organizers described as the world’s first 24-karat smart gold coin box. The high-tech display includes a built-in screen that plays a documentary titled “The Asantehene: A Pillar of Peace,” celebrating the king’s role in promoting unity and stability.

The anniversary celebrations also reflected on the milestone of the king’s 25th year on the throne, which was marked in 2024 as the 16th Asantehene. However, this specific gala focused on the broader legacy of his 27 years of impactful leadership, cultural preservation, and national development.

The event brought together dignitaries, business leaders, and traditional authorities, further underscoring the lasting significance of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s reign in Ghana and beyond.
