Former Ghana head coach Otto Addo has been officially appointed by FIFA to its prestigious Technical Study Group (TSG) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the only African representative on the elite panel of football experts. The appointment was confirmed on May 11, 2026, just months after Addo was relieved of his duties as manager of the Ghana national team despite successfully guiding the Black Stars to qualification for the expanded global tournament.
The Technical Study Group will operate under the leadership of Arsène Wenger, who currently serves as FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development. The panel will provide advanced technical and tactical analysis throughout all 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup, which will be the largest edition in the tournament’s history.
According to FIFA, the TSG will focus on analyzing tactical systems, team structures, pressing patterns, transitions, and set-piece strategies during the competition. The experts will also utilize FIFA’s “Enhanced Football Intelligence” service, a sophisticated analytical platform that combines live match data, thousands of performance metrics, and multiple video feeds from dedicated operational hubs located in Miami, Dallas, and Manchester.
In addition to match analysis, the Technical Study Group will also be responsible for selecting the winners of the tournament’s major individual awards, including the Golden Ball for Best Player, the Golden Boot for top scorer, the Golden Glove for best goalkeeper, and the Best Young Player award.
The panel is led by FIFA Senior Football Expert Pascal Zuberbühler and features several renowned figures from global football. Members include Jürgen Klinsmann, Gilberto Silva, Pablo Zabaleta, Tobin Heath, Jon Dahl Tomasson, Michael O’Neill, Aron Winter, Paulo Wanchope, and Jayne Ludlow.
Following Addo’s departure from the Black Stars, the Ghana Football Association appointed Carlos Queiroz to lead Ghana into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
