The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has entered into a strategic partnership with Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island, designating the institution as the official Team Base Camp for Ghana national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The agreement was reinforced on April 27, 2026, when officials from Bryant University and the state of Rhode Island visited the GFA headquarters in Accra for high-level discussions aimed at deepening cooperation.
Under the arrangement, the Black Stars will have access to Bryant’s modern 43,000-square-foot field house, which includes high-quality training pitches, recovery facilities, and advanced sports medicine infrastructure designed to support elite-level performance.
Bryant University was selected in part because of its strategic location near Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, one of the venues scheduled to host matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The proximity makes it one of the most convenient base camp options for teams playing in that region.
Beyond football, the partnership is expected to expand into broader areas such as education, investment, and diaspora engagement. Organizations like the GUBA Awards are also supporting aspects of the collaboration, highlighting its long-term significance beyond the tournament itself.
At the tournament, Ghana will be competing in a challenging group stage as part of their fifth World Cup appearance. The Black Stars are scheduled to face Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before taking on England on June 23 in Foxborough, and Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
While most training sessions at Bryant University will be closed to the public to maintain focus and security, the GFA has indicated plans to organize selected community outreach programs and youth engagement activities. These initiatives are intended to connect the team with the local Rhode Island community and strengthen ties with the Ghanaian diaspora in the United States.
