
Ghana women’s national under-20 football team have officially qualified for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after defeating Uganda women’s national under-20 football team 3-2 on aggregate in the final round of qualifiers concluded on May 9, 2026.
The Black Princesses secured qualification following a determined two-legged performance against Uganda. Ghana claimed a 2-1 victory in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium before battling to a 1-1 draw in the return fixture at the FUFA Stadium.
Captain Linda Owusu Ansah emerged as the hero in the decisive second leg after scoring a dramatic equalizer directly from a corner kick in the 78th minute, a goal that ultimately sealed Ghana’s passage to the tournament in Poland.
The Princesses showed remarkable resilience during the closing stages of the match after defender Margaret Yeboah received a straight red card in the 68th minute, forcing Ghana to play more than 20 minutes with ten players. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the team held firm to protect their aggregate lead and secure qualification.
The achievement extends Ghana’s impressive record in women’s youth football, with the Black Princesses now qualifying for every FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup since making their debut in 2010. The 2026 appearance will mark Ghana’s eighth consecutive participation in the global tournament, following appearances in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2022, and 2024.
Alongside Nigeria women’s national under-20 football team, Ghana continues to establish itself as one of Africa’s strongest and most consistent representatives in women’s youth football on the international stage.
The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to be hosted in Poland from September 5 to September 27, 2026.
