The Ghana Football Association is facing mounting pressure ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with a growing injury list threatening to derail the Black Stars’ preparations for a challenging Group L campaign.
GFA President Kurt Okraku has described the situation as “quite worrying,” as several key players remain sidelined at a crucial moment for the national team.
At the center of the concern is Mohammed Kudus, whose recurring hamstring injury could require surgery. The potential absence of the influential playmaker would leave a major gap in Ghana’s attack, especially with tough fixtures looming against top-tier opponents such as England and Croatia.
Defensively, the situation is equally troubling. Mohammed Salisu is ruled out long-term after suffering an ACL injury, depriving the team of one of its most dominant and physical defenders.
In midfield, Thomas Partey continues to struggle with recurring muscle problems at Villarreal CF, raising concerns over the availability of the team’s key leader and tactical anchor.
Despite the setbacks, head coach Carlos Queiroz and Okraku are banking on the resilience and “indomitable spirit” of the Black Stars to navigate the crisis.
There is, however, a boost for the squad with the return of Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, who is back in contention after nearly three years out. His recovery is seen as both a morale lift and a valuable addition to the team’s attacking options.
Queiroz is expected to name a provisional squad in the coming weeks, a decision that will indicate how much Ghana plans to rely on emerging talents to fill the gaps left by injured stars as they prepare for the global tournament.
