Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, recently held high-level talks with Yvette Cooper, a senior government minister in the United Kingdom, to strengthen relations between Ghana and the UK.
The meeting focused on deepening the long-standing historical and diplomatic ties between the two countries. Both leaders described the discussions as productive and emphasized the importance of building stronger economic and strategic partnerships.
A major part of the conversation centered on expanding trade between Ghana and the United Kingdom. Officials noted that trade between the two countries has already increased by about 10 percent, and both sides agreed to explore new ways to create additional markets for businesses in both countries.
The talks also highlighted opportunities to support young entrepreneurs by developing programs that encourage innovation, business development, and investment.
Security cooperation was another important topic during the meeting. The two sides discussed strengthening collaboration on regional security issues and expanding joint counterterrorism initiatives.
As part of efforts to boost economic cooperation, Ghana and the United Kingdom are planning to host a major investment summit in May this year. The event is expected to take place under the patronage of John Dramani Mahama, with the goal of attracting new investments and strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
Officials from both governments expressed their commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership between Ghana and the United Kingdom through continued dialogue, trade expansion, and collaboration on global and regional issues.
