A pro–Kennedy Ohene Agyapong group has warned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could struggle in the 2028 general elections if it fails to elect the former Assin Central MP as its presidential candidate.

The group, For The Masses, says feedback from grassroots engagements suggests many supporters are prepared to withdraw their backing for the NPP if Kennedy Agyapong is not chosen as flagbearer at the party’s January 31, 2026 primaries.

Convener Philip Burberry Quaye said the influence of ordinary voters on party delegates has grown following the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections, with voters now more vocal about who they are willing to support.

He dismissed claims that Agyapong’s candidacy could divide the party, arguing that the businessman and former lawmaker has consistently defended and supported the NPP.

Quaye added that Kennedy Agyapong’s broad grassroots appeal makes him a strong contender against a future National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, stressing that current conditions favour a candidate who resonates with the average Ghanaian.
