The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has directed a full-scale audit of all public health facilities in the Oti Region as part of government efforts to enhance service delivery and protect patient safety.
The directive was announced during the Ministry of Health’s two-day management retreat, where the Minister instructed the Ministry’s Technical Advisor, Dr. Korku Awoonor, to establish a technical working group to undertake the assessment.
According to the Ministry, the audit will examine the “structural integrity, operational capacity, and overall productivity” of healthcare facilities in the region. The aim is to identify gaps, improve efficiency, and ensure that health institutions operate at standards that guarantee the safety and well-being of patients.
This initiative, the Ministry noted, aligns with government’s broader strategy to strengthen oversight of health infrastructure and ensure that public health facilities nationwide consistently meet approved safety, quality, and performance benchmarks.
In a related directive, the Health Minister has also instructed all public hospitals across the country to implement 24-hour cleaning services. The move is designed to boost hygiene, reduce the risk of infections, and enhance the overall hospital experience for patients and visitors.
The Ministry explained that continuous cleaning is essential for maintaining sanitary conditions, supporting infection prevention and control measures, and creating safer and more welcoming healthcare environments.
Collectively, the two interventions reflect what the Ministry describes as its renewed commitment to raising standards across the health sector through proactive supervision, better facility management, and sustained investment in quality healthcare delivery.
