President John Dramani Mahama has signalled an acceleration and expansion of his administration’s reforms in 2026, stating that the gains made in 2025 provide a strong foundation to meet the aspirations of Ghanaians.
In his New Year Message to the Nation on Wednesday, January 1, 2026, President Mahama said the government’s focus for the year ahead would be on “expansion and delivery,” with targeted interventions across key sectors including education, health, agriculture, energy, housing and governance.
On education, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to quality learning, announcing the continued digitalisation of schools to equip classrooms for effective 21st-century teaching and learning.
In the health sector, he said the government would operationalise Universal Health Coverage through the Free Primary Health Care Programme to ensure that no Ghanaian is denied access to medical services due to financial constraints. He added that the Ghana Medical Trust Fund would provide support for persons living with non-communicable diseases.
Addressing food security, President Mahama outlined plans to transform agriculture from a largely subsistence activity into a commercially competitive sector through mechanisation, value addition and improved access to markets.
He also revealed plans to increase renewable energy to 30 per cent of the national energy mix, a move he said would help reduce energy costs while safeguarding the environment.
On housing, the President announced plans to deliver social housing units through public-private partnerships as part of efforts to address the country’s housing deficit.
Touching on governance, he pledged a renewed fight against corruption, insisting that there would be no “sacred cows” and that all public funds must be fully accounted for.
President Mahama further disclosed that his administration would implement the recommendations of the Constitutional Review Committee to strengthen the 1992 Constitution and deepen democratic governance.
According to him, the outlined initiatives reflect a renewed determination to build a fairer, more inclusive and prosperous Ghana in the years ahead.
