France has retained its position as the world’s most visited country, welcoming approximately 102 million international tourists in 2024 and becoming the first nation to surpass the 100-million annual visitor mark. The latest figures from global tourism reports and UN Tourism highlight France’s continued dominance as international travel rebounds strongly across Europe and other key destinations.
Spain ranked second with 93.8 million international arrivals, while the United States secured third place with 72.4 million visitors. China followed with 64.9 million arrivals as its tourism sector continued recovering after years of pandemic-related restrictions. Türkiye placed fifth with 60.6 million visitors, reflecting the country’s growing appeal through expanded tourism infrastructure and favorable visa policies.
Italy recorded 57.8 million arrivals to claim sixth position, ahead of Mexico with 45 million visitors. Hong Kong attracted 44.5 million travelers, while the United Kingdom and Germany completed the top ten with 41.8 million and 37.5 million visitors respectively.
Europe continues to dominate global tourism, with five European nations ranking among the world’s top ten most visited destinations. Analysts attribute the region’s strength to well-developed transportation systems, cultural attractions, and strong regional connectivity.
Emerging tourism powers are also reshaping the industry. Countries such as Türkiye and Mexico have climbed global rankings through aggressive investments in airports, hotels, and tourism infrastructure, combined with more accessible visa arrangements aimed at attracting international travelers.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Japan are being identified as the fastest-growing tourism markets globally, despite not yet entering the top ten by visitor arrivals. Both countries have accelerated tourism campaigns and expanded international travel offerings as competition for global tourism revenue intensifies.
