
The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, met on Friday, the 13th of Febrary with John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, to discuss key political, security, and economic developments in the country.
During the meeting, both leaders exchanged views on Ghana’s ongoing efforts to sustain democratic stability, advance constitutional reforms, and consolidate economic recovery. They also emphasized the need to address emerging cross-border security threats and to strengthen regional cooperation in response to evolving security dynamics in West Africa.
The Secretary-General commended Ghana for its leadership role in regional diplomacy and mediation, particularly amid the changing security landscape in the Sahel. He reaffirmed the United Nations’ continued support for Ghana’s peacebuilding, development, and stabilization initiatives, highlighting the country’s importance as a pillar of stability in the region.
The meeting underscored the strong partnership between Ghana and the United Nations and their shared commitment to promoting peace, security, and sustainable development across the region.
