The National Identification Authority (NIA) will begin issuing backlogged printed Ghana Cards in the Greater Accra Region starting April 7, 2025. This initiative forms part of efforts to ensure that every Ghanaian has access to a national identification card.

Individuals who applied for a first-time card, a replacement, or an update of personal information from June 2023 and have not yet received their cards can collect them at their respective NIA District Offices in Greater Accra.

Additionally, first-time applicants aged 15 and above who have not yet registered are encouraged to visit any NIA District Office in the region to complete their registration, beginning on the same date.

The NIA has clarified that the issuance of backlogged cards and first-time registrations are being provided at no cost.

However, services such as card replacement and updates to personal records still require payment. The public is advised to report any NIA staff who demand fees for services that are officially free.

The Authority remains committed to ensuring all Ghanaians have access to the Ghana Card and is urging citizens to participate in the ongoing registration and collection process.

For further inquiries, individuals can contact the NIA at 0302 999 309.
