The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated disciplinary measures against Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya, over allegations of breaching party directives.
In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP indicated that Adwoa Safo’s comments during an interview on Joy News’ Pulse Show were in “clear contravention” of a directive that instructed members to refrain from making public comments that could create disaffection or unrest within the party.
The party’s directive, issued as part of efforts to foster internal unity, specifically barred members from discussing sensitive party issues in the media or on platforms that could fuel negative perceptions or internal discord.
The NPP described Adwoa Safo’s remarks as not only a violation of this directive but also as undermining the party’s broader efforts to rebuild trust and cohesion.
As a former MP, Deputy Majority Leader, and Minister of State under the previous NPP administration, Adwoa Safo was expected to exhibit leadership and uphold the principles of discipline, loyalty, and unity that define the party, the statement noted.
Her actions, however, were deemed to be in breach of Article 3(5) of the NPP constitution, which mandates members to promote and defend the party’s image.
Consequently, Adwoa Safo has been referred to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and appropriate action. The party stressed the importance of accountability and adherence to internal regulations, particularly as it seeks to strengthen its internal structures ahead of future elections.
The outcome of the disciplinary process will determine any potential sanctions or resolutions regarding Adwoa Safo’s conduct.
