Obrafour, a Ghanaian rapper, has filed a lawsuit against Drake for $10 million, alleging that Drake sampled his 2003 remix of “Oye Ohene” without permission on Drake’s song “Calling My Name” from his album “Honestly Nevermind.” Obrafour has claimed in court documents filed in New York that Drake violated his copyright by using a portion of his song without consent and that the parties involved in the creation of “Calling My Name” have financially benefited from his work.

On June 20, 2022, Drake surprised his fans with his album “Honestly, Nevermind,” which included a sample of Obrafour’s song on Track 6 titled “Calling My Name.”

Obrafour is seeking $10 million in damages as compensation for his work and is requesting the court to order the parties involved to cease infringing on his copyright. Obrafour’s statement also mentioned that despite an agent of the defendants contacting him to obtain permission to use his work, he never granted them permission, and yet they released the infringing work just a few days later.

Obrafour further stated that the defendants in the infringement case have benefited financially from the infringing work, with over 4.1 million streams on YouTube, over 47,442,160 streams on Spotify, and tens of millions of streams on Apple Music within just 304 days since the release of the infringing work. He also alleged that the defendants had exploited his work through other means, including live performances.

Obrafour is seeking a court order to require the defendants and his team to cease all direct and indirect infringement of his rights protected by the Copyright Act.
