The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has opted to withdraw the two cases it had initiated in an Accra High Court against Cecilia Dapaah, the former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources.

Initially, the court rejected a motion due to noncompliance. Subsequently, the OSP submitted a second motion, seeking confirmation of the seizure of $590,000 and GH₵2.73 million discovered in Dapaah’s residence, along with the freezing of her seven bank accounts.

In addition to these financial matters, the OSP had also brought a case against Madam Dapaah for her failure to register her assets, a case concurrently in progress before the same court.

However, on the morning of January 25, 2024, the OSP decided to withdraw both cases against the former Minister, following a meeting held in chambers with the judge and defense lawyers.

On July 24, 2023, Cecilia Dapaah and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffuor, reported a theft involving their two housemaids absconding with substantial amounts of money from their residence. In response, the OSP detained Madam Dapaah on suspicion of corruption and corruption-related offenses.

It’s worth noting that during this period, the former Minister’s residence was burglarized, resulting in the loss of numerous millions in Ghana Cedis. Currently, the two housemaids, Patience Botwe and Sara Agyei, along with five other accomplices, are undergoing trial in an Accra Circuit Court in connection to the burglary.
