Otiko Djaba Explains Why She Rejected Nana Addo’s Ambassadorship Opportunity

Otiko-Djaba

Former Minister of Gender Otiko Djaba has disclosed her reasons for turning down an ambassadorial role as Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy, which was offered to her by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2018. Speaking on GTV, Djaba explained she had no regrets about declining the offer as she is retiring from active politics and wants to spend more time with her children.

Djaba, who had worked in the NGO space for 16 years before going into the full-time party and national politics, stated that work had made her an absentee mother to her four children. She expressed her gratitude to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stating that without their support, it would have been impossible for her to achieve what she had accomplished.

She also revealed that she had informed President Akufo-Addo of her decisions and is looking forward to relaxing and spending time with her family. Before joining the government in 2017, Djaba served as the NPP National Women’s Organiser and was known for calling for fasting and prayers during the party’s internal conflicts in 2015 ahead of the December 2016 general election.
