Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has adjourned the House indefinitely, citing a lack of business for lawmakers to discuss after the Business Committee failed to meet and set the agenda.

The recall session, originally requested by the Majority Caucus, was expected to address several key issues. However, Speaker Bagbin expressed disappointment that the Majority Caucus did not appear in the Chamber, halting proceedings due to their absence.

In his address, Bagbin noted that the session could not proceed as planned without committee input and a formal agenda.

“The matters they wanted us to address, which I had approved for consideration, are not on the Order Paper. In fact, there is no Order Paper today because the Business Committee could not meet due to the absence of those who called for the recall,” he explained. “As you can see, one side of the House is completely empty. While we have a quorum to sit, we have no business before us to transact.”

Bagbin further clarified, “Without an agenda adopted by the House, there is no authority to bring business forward. Given the Business Committee’s failure to meet, resulting from the absence of those who initiated this recall, we must, once again, adjourn the House. Considering our current challenges, adjourning day by day is not feasible, so I hereby adjourn the meeting indefinitely.”
