The Ashanti Region is set to become a major power generation center following the completion of critical energy projects expected to produce approximately 700 megawatts (MW) of electricity, according to John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister of Energy and Green Transition.

During a visit to assess the region’s power supply challenges, the minister toured key facilities, including the ASKSA Energy Plants at the Awomaso Bulk Power Supply enclave, the Ameri Power Plant, and the Cenit Power Plant.

Addressing the media, Jinapor assured residents that steps are being taken to stabilize power supply in the region. While acknowledging improvements in electricity availability, he emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach that includes power generation, evacuation, transmission, and distribution to ensure a reliable and sustainable energy supply.

He also commended the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) for successfully installing a new transformer, which he described as a crucial component in enhancing power delivery. He reassured residents that recent power disruptions caused by transformer switching issues have been resolved, paving the way for a more stable electricity supply in Kumasi and surrounding areas.
