The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced that the new terminal building at Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi will become operational on July 1, 2024.

According to a press statement, the new terminal has the capacity to handle 800,000 passengers per annum and features modern facilities, including two passenger boarding bridges, a Presidential lounge, and three other lounges.

 

“The new terminal building is part of our efforts to position Ghana as the preferred aviation hub and leader in airport business in West Africa,” the statement said.

GACL has collaborated with stakeholders to conduct simulations to ensure a smooth transition from the old terminal to the new one. Three live flights will be operated from the new terminal building from June 28 to June 30, 2024.

 

“We want to ensure that all systems, equipment, and staff are fully prepared to operate efficiently and effectively,” the statement added.

Passengers traveling on these dates have been advised to be aware of this arrangement.

The new terminal building is a significant upgrade for the Kumasi Airport, and it is expected to improve the overall passenger experience.

OPERATIONALIZATION OF NEW TERMINAL BUILDING AT PREMPEH I INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, KUMASI

Management of Ghana Airports Company Limited is pleased to announce that the new Terminal building at Prempeh I International Airport, Kumasi would be operationalized on Monday, 1st July 2024.

As part of preparations to ensure a smooth transition from the old terminal to the new Terminal building, Ghana Airports Company Limited, in collaboration with stakeholders will conduct a series of subsystem simulations followed by two (2) full-scale integrated simulations of all processes and systems in the new terminal building from 25th June 2024 to 30th June 2024.

The objective is to ensure that all systems, equipment, and staff are fully prepared to operate efficiently and effectively and also to manage risks associated with the transfer of operations from the old terminal to the new Terminal building.

In line with the operationalization process, there will be three (3) live flights from the new terminal building from the 28th to 30th of June 2024. Ghana Airports Company Limited has subsequently advised Africa World Airlines and Passion Air to inform passengers who are scheduled to travel on the selected dates to be mindful of this arrangement.

The features of the new Terminal building include the capacity to handle 800,000 passengers per annum, process 200 passengers per hour, 2 passenger boarding bridges, a Presidential lounge and three(3) other lounges; four (4) Boarding Gates; four (4) Self-Service Check-in Kiosks; nine (9) Check-in Desks; sixteen (16) Immigration booths, Airline and Staff offices, large Commercial Retail area, Currency Declaration office, Forex Bureau, visa-on-arrival facility, automated car park, Multipurpose Faith room, dedicated area for unaccompanied minor, modern Baggage Handling Systems and a Medical Facility among others.
