President Nana Akufo-Addo has appealed to Ghanaians not to politicize the flooding crisis affecting the North, South, and Central Tongu constituencies in the Volta Region due to the Akosombo Dam spillage. He emphasized that the consequences of this event should be a collective concern for all citizens.

In his visit to Mepe and the surrounding areas on Monday, October 16, to assess the extent of the damage caused by the spillage, President Akufo-Addo underlined the non-partisan nature of the government’s response to the crisis. He stated, “Let everybody know that politics does not come into the issue when things like this occur and government acts. When I took the oath of office, I took it on behalf of everyone in Ghana. And whether they voted for me or not, I’m the president of the people.”

The President assured that the government would take all necessary steps to ensure that those affected by the spillage in the Eastern, Greater Accra, and Volta regions receive the assistance they require. He also mentioned that the inter-ministerial committee he had appointed to handle flood-related matters would determine immediate relief measures for the victims and develop strategies to prevent such a significant calamity in the future.
