President Mahama Swears in New Members of Ghana Armed Forces Council

In line with Article 211 of the 1992 Constitution, President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in the newly appointed members of the Ghana Armed Forces Council at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence in Accra.

The Council is tasked with advising the President on key areas, including defence policy, military administration, and the operational readiness of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Among those sworn in is the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, with Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang serving as the Chairperson of the Council.

During the ceremony, President Mahama urged the Council members to carry out their duties with dedication, professionalism, and a forward-looking approach. He highlighted the critical importance of their advisory role in shaping the future of the Ghana Armed Forces, emphasizing the need to modernize the military and enhance its operational effectiveness.

The President also took the opportunity to express gratitude to military personnel and their families for their continued service and sacrifices in safeguarding national security.

In her remarks, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang assured the President of the Council’s unwavering commitment to serving diligently, with patriotism and loyalty, in efforts to reset and strengthen the Ghana Armed Forces.

Other members of the Council include Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Chief Warrant Officer Daniel Addo, Brigadier-General (Rtd) Fuseini Iddrisu, and legal practitioner Nancy Dakwa Ampofo.
