A powerful rainstorm, accompanied by intense winds, swept through Accra on Tuesday evening, starting around 5 p.m., leaving widespread destruction in its wake.
The torrential downpour affected several neighborhoods, including East Legon, Shiashie, American House, Madina, Adentan, and Dodowa. Strong winds uprooted billboards, ripped off rooftops, and submerged roads under rising floodwaters, leaving many residents stranded and vehicles unable to navigate the blocked routes.
East Legon and Shiashie were among the hardest-hit areas, where the winds tore through structures, damaging buildings and scattering debris across streets. In Madina, Adentan, and Dodowa, heavy flooding rendered key roads impassable, further complicating efforts for residents trying to move to safer areas.
While the full extent of the damage is yet to be assessed, initial reports suggest that several homes, businesses, and public infrastructure have sustained severe damage.
